MONT BLANC TUNNEL: CLOSED FOR 3 MONTHS IN AUTUMN 2023
For the execution of the vault restoration work, the Mont Blanc Tunnel will remain closed from September 4 to December 18, 2023. This was communicated by the EEIG, the structure management group between Italy and France. In the fall, the first test site will be set up which will make it possible to “determine the best operating methodology”, with a view to the redevelopment program.
The fall closing period was chosen to low vehicle traffic. During the 15 weeks of work, it is planned to dismantle all the security systems of the vault, which cannot be dismantled and reassembled every day and therefore a total closure to traffic. The first test site will operate on a 600 meter tunnel section. To carry out the intervention, planned between 2023 and 2024, 50 million euros will be invested.
