After the first fires occurred even after a few weeks of the hurricane, NHTSA ordered park outside and 15 meters buildings and other vehicles. The U.S. government’s Highway Safety Agency had determined that seawater entering cars could cause short circuits and fires caused by corrosive phenomena.

The measure was publicly announced by the Municipality of Ravenna in a press release informing private and professional users: “As a precautionary measure, dealers and individuals who, in any capacity whatsoever, own submerged electric and hybrid vehicles following the weather events of the last few days, or who are in particularly humid environments, they must adopt certain preventive measures to protect public safety. Especially such vehicles must be placed for 15 days in quarantine, i.e. they must be kept in outdoor spaceswith a distance between one vehicle and another, buildings and other vehicles Of at least five meters. FIRE IN RAVENNA SET QUARANTINE FOR ELECTRIC CARS

Compared to the American measure that arrived after a few weeks, the Italian firefighters were even faster. It was enough the first electric car fire station on the forecourt of the Renault Nissan Destauto dealership by Fornace Zarattini (Ravenna). Flames engulfed a Nissan Leaf flooded that was parked outside the dealership. The intervention of the fire brigade prevented the fire from spreading uncontrollably to other electric cars or to the building.
