The recovery of used cars in January 2023 is evidenced by the growth in ownership transfers: confidence is also returning to methane and LPG
Transfers of ownership of used cars in January 2023 show a market recovery that follows the positive trend in car registrations. The first month of the new year marks a positive balance for the car ownership transfers of all supplies, with the exception of electrical supplies. Gasoline and diesel strengthen the share that represents the preferred choice of individuals and used car dealers. Here are all the details from the ACI bulletin.
PRIVATE USED CAR OWNERSHIP TRANSFERS
In January 2023, I car ownership transfers (+10.7%), motorbike (5.1%) and all vehicles (+10.6%). This was revealed by Automobile Club Italia’s Auto-Trend bulletin, which reports the total number of ownership changes and net of mini-transfers, i.e. temporary changes of ownership by dealers. THE Used vehicles who have changed ownership in January 2023 there were 234,458 (net of mini-transfers), about 23,000 units more than the same month of the previous year. Changes in second-hand motorcycle ownership are also on the rise, following the strong performance of new motorcycle sales in January 2023.

TRANSFERS OF OWNERSHIP OF CARS USED FOR POWER SUPPLY
I watch transfers of ownership of used cars for power supply, it is curious to see the reaction of individuals and showroom owners to the evolution of fuel prices and sales of new plug-in cars. In particular, the growth in transfers of ownership of single-fuel methane cars, aimed at individuals (+78%) and salons (+57%) compared to the same month of the previous year. Here are the details of used car ownership transfers for power supply.
Used car owner changes for power supply net of mini-transfers:
- petrol, +12.9% and 37.6% share;
- diesel, +3.7% and 45.8% share;
- gasoline hybrids, +93.4% and 5.2% share;
- diesel hybrids, +90.1% and 0.6% share;
- electricity, -15.7% and 0.4% share.
- methane, +78.1% and 0.5% share;
- gasoline-methane, +17.3% and 2.2% share;
- gasoline-LPG, +73.9% and 7.1% share.
USED CAR RADIATION IN JANUARY 2023
If used car ownership changes resume in January 2023, the used car radiation continues to stagnate: -15% compared to the same month of the previous year (82,990 units against 97,659). The replacement rate turns out to be 0.68, which means that all 100 new cars recorded, they were written off 68 in January.
