Auto-Trend’s monthly bulletin, compiled by CREA on public automobile registry data, reports that June 2023 transfers of ownership of Used vehiclesnet of mini-transfers, increased by +9.5% compared to the same month of 2022 (+12.1% also considering mini-transfers, which alone recorded an increase of +15.9%). The June result positively affects first semester 2023which closes at +6.6% over the same period of the previous year.

USED ​​CARS: JUNE 2023 TOWING ALL SEMESTER

In total, in June of this year, there were 417,095 car ownership transfers, including 174,253 mini-transfers, compared to 372,214 (150,391) in 2022. For every 100 new cars, 168 used cars were sold in June and 174 in the first half. As a result, used car crossings increase, while those decrease motorbike: -7.6% in June and -3.3% over the first 6 months. The total number of vehicles recorded +5.2 in June and +4.4% over the half-year.

We recall that for mini-transfers means temporary transfers in the name of the dealer pending resale to the end customer.

RADIATION AND DEMOLITION

In June, still compared to the same month of 2022, the radiation of cars goes back to the negative sign: the drop is -12.9%mainly determined by the decrease in demolitions (-16.2%): 86,067 claims compared to 98,771 in June 2022. The unit replacement rate was 0.59 in June (59 were written off for every 100 new cars) and 0.60 in the first six months of the year. It’s an offer not good at all because this means that the renewal of the fleet in circulation is done at a slow pace.

Monthly contraction also for motorcycle radiationwith a negative variation of –14.8% and 10,228 motorcycles written off against 12,001 in June 2022. For vehicles in general finally, a decrease was noted in the –12.8%: 105,224 radiation against 120,603 in June last year.

In the first semester 2023decreases were observed by -10.1% for cars and -9.2% for all vehiclesagainst a growth of +0.6% for motorcycles.

About the kind of power supply, the traditional ones (diesel and gasoline) still predominate on the second-hand market; the sharing ofpetrol hybrid stands at 5.1% in June 2023 with a nice increase of +63%, while the electric car they are still at 0.5% share. In minivehicles, the diesel car (share of 52.9% in June 2023, in any case down from June 2022, when it was 53.5%). The share of petrol hybrid cars for minivans was 5.6% in June, with an increase of +85%, a share exceeded by LPG car, with a percentage of 7.3%.
